CFD modeling of gas-solid multiphase flow with chemical reactions of fluidized bed gasification

Main objectives :

  • Study the hydrodynamic modeling of the fluidized bed gasifier
  • Modeling the overall performance of the gasifier by integrating the reaction kinetics with fluidized bed hydrodynamics

What was achieved :

  • Hydrodynamic model of fluidized bed gasifier is developed and detail hydrodynamic behavior like pressure drop across the bed, particle volume fraction distribution, gas and particle velocity distribution etc. are studied in detail. The effect of gas-solid drag model, particle-particle interaction and particle-wall interaction on the hydrodynamic behavior is also studied.
  • A comprehensive 3-D kinetic model of bubbling fluidized bed biomass gasifier is developed by using Euler-Lagrange Computational Particle Fluid Dynamics (CPFD) model. The complex gas-solid hydrodynamic is coupled with gasification reaction kinetics.

What Next?  Under this project a comprehensive three dimensional model of fluidized bed gasifier is developed using computational fluid dynamics approach which enables to model complex mechanism of heat transfer and chemical reaction in coupling with gas-solid fluidized bed hydrodynamics. The model is used to study the performance of a fluidized bed biomass gasifier etc.
