Surendra Kumar obtained his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He has about 20 years of job experience which include research experience (at National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur; and CSIR Centre for Mathematical Modeling and Computer Simulation, Bangalore) and teaching experience (at National Institute of Foundry and Technology, Ranchi). His fields of research interest include Stress Analysis of Structures, Finite Element Method, Composite Materials, Metal Working Processes and Software Development.

 

Research Project Highlights:

  • Completed in-house research project entitled "Development of Clad Metal Laminates Using Roll-Bonding Techniques and Numerical Simulation of the Related Processes"; 1999-2000.
  • Completed sponsored research project entitled "Studies on Damage Mechanics of Composite Structures" sponsored by VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram (ISRO); 2003-2005.
  • Participated in some sponsored research projects in the fields of Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Steel Reinforcement Bars, Mathematical Modelling of Blast Furnace, Extrusion of Rapidly Solidified Magnesium Alloys, Development of Aluminium Alloy Matrix Composite Plates, Texture Development in AISI316 SS During Cold Rolling and Annealing, etc.; 1998-2004.
  • Completed sponsored research project entitled "Finite Element Modeling of Thermomechanical Behavior and Microstructural Evolution in Steel during Hot Deformation Processes" sponsored by SERC, DST, New Delhi; 2006-2010.
  • Completed sponsored project entitled "Design of Light Weight Composite Cylinders for Storage of Compressed Natural Gas for Mobile Applications" sponsored by GAIL (India) Limited, New Delhi; 2012-2013.
  • Completed research task entitled "Numerical model for realistic simulation of support-strata interaction" (One of the tasks of a CSIR Network project entitled "DEEP COAL"; Nodal Lab: CSIR-CIMFR, Dhanbad); 2013-2016.
  • Currently working on sponsored research project entitled "Development of Design Methodology for Lightweight High Pressure Hydrogen Storage Composite Cylinder for Vehicular Applications" sponsored by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, New Delhi; 2016-continuing.
  • Recently initiated research activities on "Multiscale modelling of structural response of CNT (Carbon Nanotube) reinforced laminated composites".
