CSIR and Hiroshima University, Japan signed a letter of intent to carry out collaborative research in few identified fields, among which robotics was a major one. During an interaction, many areas came up where both CMERI and Hiroshima University had common interest. Compliant actuation, soft manipulators, hand exoskeletons, drones, variable transmission and high speed vision were some of the areas identified for doing collaborations.
Professors at HU expressed their strong interest in collaborating with CSIR-CMERI for development of (i) A lightweight manipulator with mechanical impedance variability for drone application, which can be used both as a manipulating device and as a landing/ perching apparatus and (ii) a soft gripper for the arm, as first step to start collaboration.
