Department of system Cybernetics, Hiroshima University, Japan

Collaboration Type:  Researcher/Student Exchange Programme
Objective and Short Description of the project:

Visit to Hiroshima University Japan under Sakura Science Program 2018- This exchange visit was pertaining to ILDP program at Hiroshima University under Sakura Science Program 2018 which aimed at exchange of students between Indian and Japanese Universities. The target of this program was to conduct research work related to the assigned laboratory, to take industrial/ technical tours and visits to cultural sites in order to gain and insight of Japanese culture.

During the tenure of this program from 20th June 2018 to 10thJuly 2018, research activities related to the design of a compliant cyclo-drive speed reducer for compliant actuation of biomimetic robots where primary concern is the safety while interacting with human beings.

A compliant actuator allows deviations from its own equilibrium position, depending on the applied external force. Rehabilitation robots have direct physical interaction with human body.Ideally, actuators for rehabilitation robots should be compliant, forcecontrollable, and back drivable due to safety and control considerations. New requirements are being mandatory due to increasing scope of human-robotinteractions with safety as primary concern.

This program has right mix of research activities and industrial visits. The industrial visits were great exposures of industrial automation and manufacturing processes.
