Increasing fragmented holdings by farmers across India provide only a limited space for technology usage. In light of this, the advantage of using a power tiller compared to a tractor are many. A major reason behind the problems faced by the Indian agriculture sector like low yields and unscientific farming is the small and fragmented landholdings which makes use of technology expensive and not very beneficial for small and marginal farmers. CSIR-CMERI developed electrical motor operated e-Power Tiller has been designed for the purpose of performing ploughing and rotavating applications. Power tillers are primarily used for rotary, puddler, leveller, trailer, plow disc, cultivation, sowing, weeding and tillage etc. A power tiller is a two wheeled agriculture implement fitted with rotary tillers which gives a smooth resistance to farm activities. It is very popular among small and marginal farmers and is best replacement of traditional use of animals for performing farming activities. The availability of the power tiller in Indian Market is in the range of 6.6-9 kW capacity, which supports about 480 kg of weight on two drive wheels.
