Automation & Associated Augmentation of Aircraft Valve Test Rig for Research on Aircraft Valve Design & Development

Main objectives : The project was aimed at establishment of hardware necessary for automation of the aircraft valve test rig.

What was achieved :

Following items have been developed in the project:

  • A NI based electrical heater control panel and a new design of electrical feed-through for delivering supply to the heater cartridge.
  • A skid mounted vacuum system with two vacuum pumps and a PLC based electrical panel to drive both the pumps in master & slave model.
  • Five separate control panels for automatic open/close of process valves with necessary pneumatic/electrical connections.
  • Localized panels for mounting sensors/measuring instruments/gauges along with incoming/outgoing wiring.
  • Panels for data acquisition with necessary control devices.
  • Integration of different hardware has been done.

What Next?

1. Submitted a project proposal to ADA jointly with CSIR-NAL

  • Title: Project Proposal has been submitted Research towards Indigenization of Environmental Control System (ECS) Valves for LCA-Tejas

    • Objectives:

      • Design, Development, Manufacturing, Assembly and Qualification Testing of Eleven ECS Valves
      • Design, Development and Maintenance of an elaborate test facility at CSIR
    • Duration: 48 months

2. A project to develop “Electromechanical Actuator for Motorized Fuel Transfer Valve” of LCA is being prepared.

  • The actuator needs to be designed, developed and certified for airworthiness. CSIR-CMERI and CSIRNAL will jointly develop the product. A meeting in this regard has already been held at ARDC, Bangalore.
