Community Level Fluoride Removal Plant

Type:  Product
IPR Status:  Copyright
Secured In:  India
Application/uses:

High fluoride concentration in groundwater has become one of the most important toxicological and geo-environmental concerns in India. Excessive intake of fluoride causes dental, skeletal and non skeletal fluorosis. The crisis of potable defluoridated water in the affected rural areas can be solved by an arrangement of water supply through pipeline from distant sources. But it is not always feasible or extremely costly for investment. The best option would be the employment of a specially designed water filtration module for community purposes. Therefore, this technology will be of immense help to sustain a fluoride free environment.

Salient Technical Competing Features:
  • Multi-stage gravitational based community defluoridation plant
  • Cartridges are comprised of naturally available sand, gravels along with R & D modified multifunctional natural adsorbents
  • Flow rate ~ 700L/ hour
  • Storage capacity ~ 1000 L
  • Attachable to Mark-II hand pump ( non-electricity based) [Optional]
  • Simple in design-operation and maintenance
  • It can reduce F- concentration from ~ 8 ppm to below 1.5 ppm
Environmental Consideration:

A combination of oxidation, gravitational settling and chemisorption process has been applied or removal of excess fluoride from fluoride contaminated ground water.

Status of Commercialization:  The commercial filtration unit addressing the defluoridation of water is rarely available in the market. The developed filtration unit could be promising for commercialization.
Major Raw Materials To Be Utilized :  Cartridges are comprised of naturally available sand, gravels along with R & D modified multifunctional natural adsorbents
Techno Economic:  Defluoridation plant comprising of naturally abundant adsorbents materials in the market is unavailable till now. Developed filtration plant will be very much effective in commercialization. The developed prototype may be deployed in several govt. sector.
Technology Package:  Design drawings (Working prototype is with CMERI)
